Biscuit & Gravy Casserole

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 pound SFM sausage (salt & pepper or sage)

  • 1 can of biscuits

  • 1/2 stick of butter

  • 2 Tbsp flour

  • 3 cups milk

  • 1 tsp nutmeg

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • salt & pepper to taste

Directions:

  • Brown the sausage in a skillet until fully cooked. Break the sausage up into small pieces. This makes it easier to mix the meat with the other ingredients.

  • While the sausage is browning, grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

  • Open the can of biscuits, and using kitchen shears or knife cut each biscuit into quarters and layer the quarters into the bottom of the baking dish.

  • Once the sausage is cooked, add the butter to the skillet.

  • When the butter is melted, sprinkle the flour into the sausage and butter mixture. Stir together for 1 minute to cook out the flour taste.

  • Add the milk to the mixture slowly, and keep stirring. This step should happen slowly so that lumps are prevented in the gravy. Continue stirring when all of the milk is added. The gravy will thicken but should still be loose because it will soak into the biscuits during baking.

  • Season the gravy with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.

  • When the sausage gravy is ready, pour the mixture over the biscuits. Top the gravy with the cheddar cheese.

  • Bake for 30 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly, and the biscuits are fluffy.

  • Enjoy!
